Submission Criteria

You will develop a tool that:

• Accepts quarterly market reports (PDF format) as input
• Generates structured reports for each of the six regions
• Formats the output clearly and professionally
• Can be used by non-technical users (e.g., via GUI or simple executable)

To improve usability, consider adding a simple graphical interface or dashboard. If possible, the solution should also tolerate minor variations in the report layout.

Required Features

Each regional report (Houston, Dallas, etc.) must contain the following sections:

1. Historical Housing Activity

• Analyze and compare the following metrics over the most recent two quarters:
  • QTR CLOS
  • QTR STARTS
  • TOTAL INV
  • TOTAL SUPPLY
• Include:
  • Raw values for both quarters
  • Quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) percentage change for each metric

2. Subdivision Ranking by Annual Starts (Top 25 Subdivisions)

• From the Top 25 subdivisions:
  • Calculate the closing percentage for the Top 10 and Top 25
  • Show these as proportions of total closings

3. Builder Benchmark: Observed Closings (Top 25 Builders)

• Focus on the Top 25 builders:
  • Report actual closings and QoQ changes
  • Provide closing percentages for the Top 10 and Top 25 compared to total closings

4. Executive Summary & Strategic Recommendations

• Provide a 1–2 paragraph summary for each region that includes:
  • Key market takeaways relevant to roofing operations
  • Potential business implications or risks
  • Market penetration recommendations specific to each region

Output Format Options

• HTML – Viewable in a browser; may be exported to PDF
• Excel Workbook – Includes tables and summaries; optional charts
• Markdown or Plain Text – Readable summaries with clear structure
• PDF (Static) – Generated from HTML or directly via PDF libraries
• Interactive Dashboard – Web-based UI or desktop app

The output should be clearly organized and ready to share with stakeholders. Use tables or visual elements where appropriate to enhance clarity. If not in PDF format, provide notes on how to export or distribute the reports.

Documentation Requirements

Your final submission must include the following documentation:

• A written user guide or README explaining how to download and use the tool
• Screenshots of the tool in action
• A short demo video showcasing key features and workflow
• Description of how the tool can be updated to accommodate future quarterly reports
